SSU golf programs to compete at Ohio Christian Fall Invitational

The men's and women's golf programs at Shawnee State will head into competition together for the second consecutive week, as Dave Hopkins' and Holley Hart's programs will head northward on U.S. 23 to compete in an in-state event when the Bears take to the links at the Ohio Christian Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Pickaway Golf Course in Circleville.

On the men's side, Shawnee State will be among eight teams competing in the event. The additional seven programs competing include Alice Lloyd (Ky.), Indiana Tech, Kentucky Christian, Mount Vernon Nazarene, Ohio Christian, Rio Grande and West Virginia Tech.

The women's tournament -- in addition to Shawnee State -- will see Indiana Tech, Mount Vernon Nazarene, Ohio Christian and Rio Grande compete from a team perspective. Alice Lloyd (Ky.) and Kentucky Christian will have three players, combined, compete as individuals.

The lineup remains consistent for the men with Cayden Haislop moving up from his individual role this week for the upcoming Ohio Christian Fall Invitational:

Stevenson is coming off of a strong sixth place finish in last weekend's Georgetown Invitational in Georgetown, Ky., while Logan Hughes finished 11th and Trey Cracraft 13th in the field to represent a good showing for the Bears, who followed up an opening round 307 with a second-day 304 as a group.

As for the Shawnee State women, the quartet of Sidnea Belville, Cali Baird, Aly Wellman and Brynna Spencer stay in the lineup while freshman golfer Brianna Stid will make her first career appearance for the Bears in this week's Ohio Christian Fall Invitational:

  • Sidnea Belville (Fr., Ironton, Ohio/Ironton High School)
  • Cali Baird (Jr., Thornville, Ohio/Sheridan High School)
  • Aly Wellman (Soph., Wayne, W. Va./Wayne High School)
  • Brynna Spencer (Fr., Piketon, Ohio/Piketon High School)
  • Brianna Stid (Fr., Lewiston, Ohio/Indian Lake High School)

Belville and Wellman each finished with impressive efforts of their own as the former, who shot a strong 81 to open her collegiate career at the Georgetown Invitational, finished seventh overall in the field while Wellman, who continues to be a consistent producer for the Shawnee State women's golf lineup, finished ninth at the Georgetown, Ky.-based event to open up her sophomore campaign.
