Shawnee State volleyball -- Friday, Oct. 4 vs. Alice Lloyd (6 p.m.), Waller Gymnasium; Saturday, Oct. 5 at Midway (12 p.m.), Marshall Gymnasium

Back at .500 for the season, the volleyball program at Shawnee State (7-7) will look to carry its momentum back into River States Conference action as the Bears face Alice Lloyd (Ky.) Friday evening and Midway (Ky.) Saturday afternoon.

Shawnee State hit .376 as a team in a dominating straight-set victory over Wilberforce (25-9, 25-7, 25-12), with four different players (Kylee Gifford, Whytney Faulkner, Haidyn Wamsley and Maelynn Howell) nabbing seven or more kills in the convincing victory. Gifford hit .643 and did not commit an attack error in 14 attempts.

Additionally, Ava Jenkins eclipsed 800 digs for her career with 17 dives in just three sets -- and now sits at 807 for her time at Shawnee State. Reagan Lewis and Makaela Lovely combined for 31 assists to help lead the passing attack.

Alice Lloyd is led by junior middle blocker Kyleah Ward (123 kills), while sophomore Gracie Gibson (183 digs), freshman Jadyn Hall and sophomore T.K. Ellis have 158 and 155 digs respectively. Ellis and Hall also have 92 and 84 kills as secondary attackers behind Ward.

Midway, meanwhile, is led by 6-0 senior right side hitter Aubry Koester (164 kills, 133 digs) and 5-11 senior outside hitter Emily Slaughter (123 kills, 88 digs), while 5-6 setters Marinna Liedle, a senior, and Paige Liles, a sophomore, head up the passing with 210 and 188 assists, respectively. 5-5 freshman Blair Riney (145 digs) and 5-8 senior Anju Sugiya (139 digs) lead the defense.

Shawnee State men's and women's cross country -- Friday, Oct. 4 at Ohio Wesleyan Invitational (6 p.m. men, 6:45 p.m. women); Saturday, Oct. 5 at Live in Lou XC Classic (9:30 a.m. men, 12:45 p.m. women)

The men's and women's cross country programs will have a busy weekend ahead of them as the Bears will send eight athletes to compete at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational in Powell, Ohio on Friday evening -- then will have an additional 15 harriers compete in the prestigeous Live in Lou XC Classic Saturday in Louisville, Ky.

Two women -- Natalie Brammer and Miranda Smith -- will compete in the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational, while six men -- Luke Butler, Garrett Carver, Jared Flowers, Jacob Naumovski, Walker Pannell and Malachi Shugert -- will join them at the Central Ohio-based meet. Friday's cross country meet will serve as Smith's official collegiate debut in a Shawnee State uniform.

On Saturday, the men's cross country program leads things off as eight of its runners, including Isaiah Lanoy, Kaiden Lanoy, Trevor Lanoy, Dylan French, Aidan Judd, Jerry O'Dell, Connor Darnell and Caden LaRue, will all compete in the Live in Lou 8K Men's Gold race, which is stacked with elite runners from all levels including NCAA Division I participants from Clemson, Michigan and South Carolina, among others.

Olivia Cisco, Jessica Elick, Juniper Allen, Elizabeth Middleton, Sydney Reed, Kirsten Evans and Amanda Salmons will all participate in the Live in Lou's 6K Women's Silver race later on in the day.

Shawnee State men's and women's tennis -- Saturday, Oct. 5 at Hanover (Ind.), Zeddies Tennis Center, 11 a.m.

Like the men's and women's soccer programs on Saturday, the Shawnee State men's and women's tennis programs will also be making their way to the Hoosier State -- as Greg Geremia's group looks to continue building on momentum set up by sophomores Vanessa Akuaku and Ryan Fox and senior Antonia Ilea at the ITA-NAIA Southeast Regional Championships last week.

Akuaku ultimately advanced all the way to the ITA-NAIA Southeast Regional Championships Round of 16 in women's singles thanks to her play.

Shawnee State men's and women's bowling -- Saturday, Oct. 5 at Ohio Bowling Conference Match No. 1

Last but certainly not least, the men's and women's bowling programs at Shawnee State will look to build on the success that both programs have enjoyed over the course of the last few years when the Bears compete at the Ohio Bowling Conference's Match No. 1, which will be held at the Columbus Bowling Palace in Columbus, Ohio.

Together, Bryan Sturgell and Jani Sturgell have built one of the more well-respected bowling programs across the country -- as the Bears have earned two United States Bowling Congress Sectional Qualifications over the last four seasons, produced the program's first NAIA All-American in Chloe Long and have consistently churned out high GPAs and graduation rates to boot.

A total of 24 bowlers -- 13 men and 11 women -- are on the 2024-25 roster for the men's and women's bowling programs.

Shawnee State Esports will also be in action -- as the Rocket League and Super Smash Bros. units will look to continue their outstanding starts moving forward into the weekend.
