Inclement weather changes schedules for baseball, men's/women's golf, softball
An unusual low pressure system, both in terms of strength as well as its pace of movement across the Midwest and Southeast regions, has resulted in the change of schedules for Shawnee State's baseball, women's and men's golf and softball programs.
Changes to the schedules of all four teams are highlighted below:
Softball vs. Rio Grande
Shawnee State's softball doubleheader against Rio Grande has been moved from Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m. to Wednesday, April 9 at 3 p.m. at Doc Singleton Park. The Bears' contests at West Virginia Tech (3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday, April 8) and against Indiana-Southeast (1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 12) remain unchanged.
Men's Golf
Men's golf's affairs at Ohio Dominican, which was a match play event on April 5 and 6, and Kentucky Christian, which was hosting a 36-hole tournament on April 7 and 8, have been cancelled due to inclement weather and will not be made up.
As a result of these cancellations, the men's golf program picked up an event, the 2025 Alice Lloyd College Last Shot, which will be held at Old Bridge Golf Course in Danville, Ky. Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13.
The ALC Last Shot will be part of three invitationals that Shawnee State will take part in over a week's time, as the Bears will also play at the Ohio Christian Spring Invitational Monday, April 14 and Tuesday, April 15 before hosting its own tournament -- the Harry Weinbrecht Invitational -- Friday, April 18.
Women's Golf
Women's golf affairs at Defiance on April 4 and 5, as well as at Kentucky Christian on April 7 and 8, have been cancelled as well and will not be made up. The Bears will compete at the Ohio Christian Spring Invitational Monday, April 14 and Tuesday, April 15 prior to the three-day River States Conference Tournament Championships, which will be held from Sunday, April 27 to Tuesday, April 29 in Daniels, W. Va.
Baseball
Shawnee State baseball, which had its home series changed from a three-game set at Branch Rickey Park Friday and Saturday to a potential three-game series at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, will now play a doubleheader against Indiana-Southeast Monday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. at Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Ind. There will be no third game between the two teams.
Shawnee State's series against Indiana-Columbus, which was to be a three-game road set for the Bears, will now be a three-game home series at Branch Rickey Park -- which allows the Bears to play at home for each of the final eight games of the regular season. Friday's single nine-inning game will begin at 3 p.m., while Saturday's doubleheader will commence at 12 p.m.
