Bio
Seth Pluta, a 2022 graduate of Shawnee State University and a native of Wellington, Ohio, is in his third full-time year in the athletic department. He serves as the Assistant Athletic Director as Shawnee State's Gameday Coordinator.
Pluta played from 2018 to 2022 as a starting pitcher for Shawnee State and ultimately accumulated a winning record of 6-3 overall while serving as a midweek starting pitcher and a key relief pitcher out of the bullpen for the Bears throughout that stretch of time. During the latter portion of his career, Pluta even helped run bullpen sessions for his teammates, playing a vital role in aiding the pitching arms of Kyle Wisniewski and Jacob Gleason, among others, at that time.
Outside of baseball, and essentially from the minute he stepped onto the Shawnee State campus, Pluta has been and continues to be a critical piece to Shawnee State's gameday operations.
Having served various roles as a student from stat spotter to shot clock operator to gameday promotions, his work as a student, along with that of his fellow SSU Sport Management classmates Skylar Shaffer, Shae Patty, Alek Morgan, Kyle McClellan, Ben Vannatta, Chase Ward and Jesse Hall and fellow SSU baseball teammate Drew Lowe, among others were large in Shawnee State achieving arguably its greatest combined success in men's and women's basketball between the 2017-18 to 2020-21 seasons, while the SSU volleyball, men's and women's soccer and baseball programs either progressed in wins or had a player break a long-held school record, such as Macie Rhoads in kills, Kevin de Lange in goals scored, Thomas de Graauw in assists, and Jacob Kline in home runs. The women's and men's basketball programs also combined for three conference tournament championships during that span with the women finishing the 2017-18 regular season as the No. 1 unit in the NAIA National Poll and qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament in every season and the men capturing the 2021 NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship. On the men's side, EJ Onu broke the all-time school blocks record and was the first player from Shawnee State to rise all the way to the NBA G-League.
Pluta also assisted in various tasks from an office standpoint during his time as a student. He ultimately was a recipient of the Joe Smith Award via the Shawnee State Athletic Department.
Over the past two athletic seasons, Pluta's role has increased following his graduation in May 2022 from Shawnee State. He's served as SSU's Sports Information Director, served as the interim head baseball coach for the 2023 season and has taken a lead role in the organization and production of home athletic events at Shawnee State, which will only continue in his current capacity.
