Rocket League Eliminated from NACE Postseason Tournament

This Monday, Bears Rocket League took on University of Mississippi for their Top 16 appearance in the NACE National Tournament. Despite several close games, the Bears fell 0 – 4 and were eliminated from postseason play.

Game one was a hard-fought 3 – 5 loss for the squad. After going down early, PJ Fiscus (gamertag: Fisci25) put the Bears on the board thanks to an assist from Zach Ellis (gamertag: FireRaptor). After conceding two more goals, Ellis scored two points of his own to bring the match back to a one-goal deficit. The comeback wasn't in the cards for the squad as one more point slipped through their defense to end the opener. Dyllan DeBruyne (gamertag: Duckworth) played the defensive in this game, topping the SSU board with two saves.

The second game saw an early lead for the squad, who earned a two-point lead in hopes of building their signature momentum-based play. Unfortunately, they were unable to keep their momentum after Mississippi nabbed a point of their own. SSU earned one more goal to attempt to keep the lead, but struggled to prevent the comeback, losing three more goals, to lose the game 3 – 4. Fiscus led the squad in goals, earning two to his credit. DeBruyne earned the third goal as well as two assists. Ellis played the supporting role with one assist and two saves.

Game three was a rough point for the Bears. They were unable to mount a defense against Mississippi's aggression and fell 0 – 5.

Coming off the tough loss, game four saw the squad make an early push to gain momentum for the reverse sweep. After trading the first goals, the Bears went up with a one goal lead. The game remained a stalemate for nearly two and a half minutes with the squad poised to take a win, but two quick goals from Mississippi resulted in another 3 – 2 loss.

This match ends post season hopes for Rocket League, who place ninth in the national tournament. The squad will return for the spring NACE season.
