
Rocket League Qualifies for National Tournament
With a solid 4 – 2 win over University of Kentucky last night, SSU Rocket League has earned a spot in the NACE national tournament.
Game one was a 1 – 2 loss for the Bears, who played hard on the defend. The team had six saves altogether, with half going to Dyllan DeBruyne (gamertag: Duckworth). The senior also snagged the only goal for the Bears as the opener, assisted by PJ Fiscus (gamertag: Fisci25). Despite the early lead, the squad lost momentum and conceded two goals. Game two was a shutout loss for the squad, in 0 – 2 fashion. DeBruyne once again had three saves, while Fiscus tied with teammate Kevin Keller, Jr. (gamertag: Quietkiller) with one save each.
Game three saw the beginning of the comeback for SSU, where they took it in an exciting 3 – 2 win. They held a 3 – 0 lead early in the game, then conceded two goals in the latter half after intense defensive work. DeBruyne led the squad in goals, with two to his credit. Keller earned the third, alongside one assist. Fiscus was credited with two assists of his own. Game four saw the Bears take another win with a 4 – 3 result. The game was opened by Fiscus claiming a goal in the first 20 seconds of play but was quickly answered back from Kentucky. After some back and forth, DeBruyne claims the goal to solidify the Bears' lead with 30 seconds remaining. Fiscus and DeBruyne split the goals evenly, earning two each. DeBruyne earned two assists while Keller earned one of his own.
Game five saw SSU build on their momentum with an explosive 5 – 2 win over Kentucky. Four of the squad's goals were credited to Fiscus, who had been targeted with demolitions in the earlier games. DeBruyne claimed the fifth goal as well as two assists. Keller played a supporting role, with two assists and three saves to his credit. The fifth game saw the Bears take another win in 4 – 2 fashion. Both DeBruyne and Keller earned two goals each, with Keller also earning two assists. Fiscus played a supporting role, with one assist and one save to his credit.
This win earns Shawnee State qualification into the NACE national tournament, which will take place in April. Stay tuned to ssubears.com for the next match date.
