
SSU Esports joins Great Lakes Esports Conference
The Esports program at Shawnee State has officially joined a new conference -- as for the 2024-25 season on forward, the Bears will be joining the Great Lakes Esports Conference (GLEC), becoming the 25th institution to join the growing Midwest presence that the conference is establishing in the Esports world.
The regular season for competition in the Great Lakes Esport Conference will run from Sept. 9 through Oct. 26 with Shawnee State competing in Rocket League, Overwatch, League of Legends and Super Smash Bros in the GLEC. Rocket League will compete on Mondays, Overwatch and League of Legends will do battle on Tuesdays and Super Smash Bros will cap off each week with their own matches on Thursdays.
According to the Great Lakes Esport Conference website, Shawnee State joins Baldwin-Wallace, Cleveland State, Defiance, Heidelberg, Lourdes, Marietta, Muskingum, Mount Vernon Nazarene, Mount Union, Ohio Northern and Tiffin as Ohio institutions who are in the conference.
In addition to the 12 Ohio schools that are in the GLEC, Albion (Mich.), Alma (Mich.), Anderson (Ind.), Bethel (Ind.), Cleary (Mich.), Concordia-Ann Arbor (Mich.), Indiana Wesleyan, Manchester (Ind.), Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), Saint Xavier (Ill.), Saint Francis (Ind.), Trine (Ind.) and Valparaiso (Ind.) are also a part of the GLEC.
