Everybody Eats: Super Smash Bros rips off fifth consecutive victory; League of Legends, Overwatch also ring bell in latest triumphs by SSU Esports

The theme for Shawnee State Esports was simple this past week -- everybody eats.

The Super Smash Bros. program at Shawnee State collected three wins over the past week on its own to collect five consecutive match victories, while the Overwatch and League of Legends units each got on the board with one win each between them in a fantastic 5-0 week for the SSU Esports program that saw the Bears win each of its 11 sets over the past week as well.

A full rundown of each of Shawnee State's Esports matches are below:

Tuesday, Oct. 15, NACE Overwatch -- Shawnee State 3, Morris College (S.C.) 0

In a NACE Overwatch match that was held on Oct. 15, the Shawnee State Overwatch squad claimed its first straight set victory of the 2024-25 season with a convincing 3-0 triumph over Morris (S.C.) in National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) competition.

Shawnee State won the Lijang map (2-0), King's Row (1-0) and Survasa (3-0) en route to claiming the sweep behind the work of Logan Betz (Gamertag: Betz), Gabriel Martinson (Gamertag: Happy), Kenneth Hopkins (Gamertag: TheFox), Ben Palmieri (Gamertag: Bas1lisk) and Zach Smith (Gamertag: zsmitty2020).

Of the above, Martinson led the way by notching 17,527 damage points while Smith (14,500 damage points) and Palmieri (14,409 damage points) followed close behind. Betz and Hopkins also nabbed over 3,000 damage points in each of the three maps to round out a consistent effort from Overwatch.

Shawnee State's Overwatch squad improved to 2-4 on the year.

Saturday, Oct. 19, GLEC League of Legends -- Shawnee State 2, Lourdes 0

The League of Legends squad added in its own triumphant showing in a dominating 2-0 victory over Lourdes Saturday in a Great Lakes Esports Conference (GLEC) matchup, quickly taking care of business against the Gray Wolves.

The Bears ultimately put 105,350 damage points and 101,573 damage tallies against Lourdes in the two contests, helping Shawnee State claim easy victories en route to the sweep.

Thursday, Oct. 17, NACE Super Smash Bros -- Shawnee State 2, Grand Valley State (Mich.) 0

In its first match of the week, the Shawnee State Super Smash Bros squad continued its roll, collecting a 2-0 victory over Grand Valley State (Mich.) Thursday evening (2-0, 5-0) in a NACE Super Smash Bros match.

Super Smash Bros. stalwart Christopher Mowery (Gamertag: SpaceMiner) continues to head up the charge -- as evidenced by his 11 stocks taken including a match-sealing seven in the second and final set alone. Simon Rhodes (Gamertag: BIRD_) and Samuel Patterson (Gamertag: Samarex) each collected six stocks in the win.

Saturday, Oct. 19, GLEC Super Smash Bros -- Shawnee State 2, Tiffin 0; Shawnee State 2, Muskingum 0

In a Great Lakes Esports Conference doubleheader, the Shawnee State Super Smash Bros. program made quick work of the Tiffin Dragons' and Muskingum Muskies' Super Smash Bros. programs, claiming 2-0 victories over Tiffin (6-0 and 1-0) and Muskingum (4-0 and 5-0) on Saturday.

Mowery again led the Bears in Game 1 against Tiffin, claiming nine stocks to lead the Bears to an easy win in that contest. Patterson, along with Michael Clark (Gamertag: Googlegad), then nabbed five and four stocks respectively to help close out the Dragons with a 1-0 triumph in Game 2.

Shawnee State had no trouble whatsoever against Muskingum as its contest against the Muskies was a rout on all fronts. Patterson took eight stocks in the opening contest while Mowery added in nine stocks in the second match to lead the Bears to convincing victories.
