Beard named CSC-NAIA Academic All-District honoree

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- To say that the work that Tre Beard has put in is paying off would be an understatement.

That's not just evident on the basketball court, but off of it, as well.

For the second consecutive season, Shawnee State graduate student, 2025 River States Conference Player of the Year and 2025 First-Team All-RSC honoree Tre Beard was named as CSC Academic All-District honoree, as Beard was recognized by national officials within the College Sports Communicators realm with the honor Tuesday afternoon.

Beard, who graduated with Cum Laude honors with his bachelor's degree in business management (3.58 GPA) and currently holds a 3.84 GPA as a master's student in business adminstration, owns what is easily one of the greatest resumes in the history of the Shawnee State men's basketball program.

Along with maintaining high academic marks throughout his time at Shawnee State, Beard always delivered when his number was called on the court.

  • A player who started his career by being on the Shawnee State men's basketball program's best team in program history, which won its last 27 games en route to going 31-2 overall and winning a NAIA National Championship in 2021, Beard became the all-time leader in games played at Shawnee State (140) and also became the Shawnee State men's basketball program's all-time leader in wins (103).
  • Individually, Beard set the single-season program record for FT% (91.5); breaking the old mark that he tied last year when he nabbed a 90.3 percent mark from the free throw stripe.
  • The grad student also scored the most points in a single game for Shawnee State since at least 2003 when Beard put up 38 points in an 80-76 double-overtime victory over Rio Grande back on Feb. 11. Beard later won River States Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors as a result of that performance.
  • In addition to the above marks, Beard is the only player in program history that has been involved with the Shawnee State men's basketball program to win a national tournament game in two separate seasons ('21, '24) and is the only player ever with the SSU men's basketball program who has shot above 45 percent from three-point range in two separate seasons (50.3 in '23-24; 47.7 in '24-25)
  • Along with the above statistics, Beard finished second in program history in career three-point field goals made (241) and set the sixth-highest single-season scoring average (19.1) and sixth-highest single-season free throws made (129) in program history. Beard also finished the 2024-25 season with an assist-to-turnover ratio that was nearly 2-to-1 -- as Beard tallied 83 assists (2.9 per game) compared to turning the basketball over just 43 times (1.5 per contest).

In addition to his accomplishments listed above, Beard, who made the President's List twice as an undergraduate student (which requires having a perfect 4.0 GPA in a single semester), has volunteered his time with various community service projects, has served as a member of Shawnee State's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and has come up with his own clothing line, Christ over Me.

As a result of being named as an Academic All-District honoree, Beard is part of a ballot that is under consideration for College Sports Communicators Academic All-America honors. The official College Sports Communicators Academic All-America lists for men's basketball will be unveiled Tuesday, April 15.
