Men's bowling finishes ninth at OBC Championships and qualifies for ITC Sectionals; Ison, Landers, Schoemer earn OBC accolades
The men's bowling program at Shawnee State posted another solid effort with its young group, as the Bears notched a ninth-place finish at the Ohio Bowling Conference Championships by knocking down 6,574 pins.
The effort for the men, just like the women, clinches the program's first Intercollegiate Team Championship (ITC) Sectional berth since the 2021 season. Shawnee State bowled 11 Baker games above a 200-pin mark at the OBC Championships to seal the berth, while also finishing better than Indiana, Cincinnati, Kent State-Trumbull, Akron, Mount Vernon Nazarene, Ohio Northern and Tiffin.
Through the entirety of Ohio Bowling Conference play, Blake Landers and Zach Ison were named to the OBC's All-Freshman list. Ison, who had already received a 300 jacket from Shawnee State bowling coaches Bryan and Jani Sturgell, received a second 300 jacket from the OBC, while Landers added in OBC Honorable Mention accolades along with his All-Freshman Team mention.
Along with the previously mentioned duo, Shawnee State's Andrew Schoemer was named as a JV All-Ohio Bowling Conference recipient.
SSU will find out Wednesday evening where they will be playing at in ITC Sectional competition. The four sectional sites are Smyrna, Tenn. (where the Bears went to in 2021), Allen Park, Mich., Addison, Ill., or Dallas, Texas. ITC Sectionals will be Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10.
