SSU men's bowling program remains in solid position; finishes seventh in 20-team Raider Classic following Day 2 efforts

DAYTON, Ohio -- The men's bowling program at Shawnee State continues to enjoy a strong start to the 2025 season -- as the Bears rounded out a highly respectable showing by knocking down 3,121 pins in its 16 Baker contests Sunday at the Raider Classic to ultimately amass 8,252 pins in all over two consecutive days, finishing seventh in a strong 20-team field at the traditionally strong, Dayton, Ohio-based event.

The Bears, who finished seventh in the 20-team event with its 8,252-pin total, bested Cleary (Mich.), Wright State, Cumberland (Tenn.), Huntington (Ind.), Baldwin Wallace, Akron, Campbellsville, Thomas More, Ohio Northern, Dayton, Tiffin, Penn State-Burks and Miami (Ohio). Shawnee State was one of just 10 teams in the event to bowl above the 8,000-pin mark, and finished just 117 pins back of a top-four finish in the field.

In Baker play, Shawnee State more than held its own, starting strong over the first three Baker sets by nabbing eight games above 200 pins over its first 12 affairs.

SSU immediately started off Baker play in a massive manner, dropping 231 pins over its first Baker, and continued that strong form over the first three-quarters of the day, posting 201 pins in Game 3, then three consecutive Baker contests of 222, 217 and 221 markers in Games 6 through 8. Not satisfied with settling for just five 200-plus Baker games over its first eight frames, the SSU men's bowling squad then nabbed three straight Bakers above 200 again by collecting 209, 213 and 208 pulls in Games 10 through 12 to make it eight Baker games above 200 over its first 12 affairs.

Overall, the Shawnee State men's bowling program averaged 204.25, 208.75, and 203.75 pins over its first three sets of Bakers -- completing another promising output that will certainly continue to build on Shawnee State's case for a second consecutive USBC Sectional bid, and third overall.
