Bears finish fifth in Pioneer Classic; get top-10 showings from Davis, McDonald
Behind two top-10 showings from Caleb Davis and Daulton McDonald, the men's golf program at Shawnee State posted a two-day 608 -- shooting 304 in both rounds to finish fifth in the Pioneer Classic, which was held at Lakeside Golf Course in Beverly, Ohio.
McDonald, who posted a three-over 73 after the first day of action, shot a six-over 76 to finish with a 149, while Davis, who nabbed a four-over 74 after the opening round, shot a five-over 75 in the second round of play to match McDonald's effort as the duo tied for ninth in the 37-golfer field.
Kyle Salamon, who shot a four-over 74 on the opening day as well, posted a six-over 76 on Day 2 to finish with a two-day 150, while Tanner Stevenson, who competed as an individual during the weekend, matched Salamon all the way as the duo finished in a tie for 15th.
Logan Hughes, who played as an individual as well, posted a strong second round of golf, notching a two-over 72 to improve on his opening round score by 13 strokes en route to finishing 27th in the field. Ross Ferrell and Ben Flanders each shot seven-over 77s, ultimately finishing in a tie for 30th as well as 34th overall.
Both the men's golf program, as well as the women's golf program, will be back in action at the four-day River States Conference Tournament. The women's golf program will compete in the three-day tournament from Sunday, April 21 through Tuesday, April 23, while the men's golf program will play from Sunday, April 28 through Tuesday, April 30. Both tournaments will be held at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, W. Va.
