Ferrell nabs first career RSC Golfer of the Week Award
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Behind a top-three finish at the University of Pikeville Spring Invitational that saw Ross Ferrell matched the lowest round of the second day out of all 32 golfers in the UPike Spring Invitational field, the junior from Tipp City was named as the River States Conference's Men's Golfer of the Week, as announced by RSC officials Monday afternoon.
Ferrell, who shot his career low in terms of stroke over the final 18 holes of play, shot a one-over 71 on that final day of competition to rise from a tie for ninth place in the rundown into a tie for third place at the finish, earning UPike Spring Invitational All-Tournament Team honors as a result.
The junior matched the second-best score on par 3s and par 5s for the tournament, tied for fourth in total birdies in the two-day event and finished tied for seventh in pars. On Day 2 alone, Ferrell birdied the first and 17th holes while posting pars on 13 of the 16 remaining holes on the day en route to posting a score that was just one stroke back of a runner-up finish in the tournament.
The men's golf program at Shawnee State rounds out its regular season schedule over the next 11 days, as the Bears are back in action Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13 as a part of the 2025 Last Shot, which will be held at Old Bridge Golf Course in Danville, Ky., before competing again Monday, April 14 and Tuesday, April 15 at the Ohio Christian Spring Invitational at Crown Hill Golf Course in Williamsport and then closing out its season with its own one-day, 18-hole tournament -- the Harry Weinbrecht Invitational -- at the Elks Country Club in McDermott.
