BECKLEY, W. Va. -- The men's soccer program at Shawnee State held the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears' men's soccer program to a 1-0 count through 45 minutes of action, but couldn't capitalize on its own opportunities and ultimately fell in a 4-0 defeat Thursday evening in a River States Conference contest that was held in Beckley, W. Va.
Shawnee State posted a respectable showing in terms of shots -- as the Bears were outshot but held West Virginia Tech to 14 shots overall and just six in the second half. However, WVU Tech was able to place 11 of its shots on frame, while SSU put two shots on goal in the contest.
Five different players took at least one shot for the Bears in the contest, with Nikos Pontikis heading the way with three shots and a shot on goal in the matchup and Marco Riva adding in two pulls and a shot on frame himself. Théo Cavaleiro Trindade, Clement Akanyah and Trevor Aveiro Masanjala each nabbed one shot apiece themselves.
The Bears (4-7-2, 1-2-1 River States Conference) will look to bounce back against Brescia, Ky. (2-8-4, 1-1-2 River States Conference) Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. CT.
