Third-place finishes by Ater (200 backstroke), Ramdeen (100 backstroke) led Shawnee State men's swimming on Day 2 of Dr. Dillery Fall Frenzy

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The men's swimming program at Shawnee State notched a total of 266.5 points on the second day of the Dr. Dillery Fall Frenzy -- as third-place finishes by Josiah Ramdeen in the 100 yard backstroke (57.65) and Evan Ater (2:09.67) in the 200 yard backstroke and the efforts of Shawnee State's relay units led the Bears' swimming efforts at the Doris and Bob Holloway Health and Wellness Center in Columbia, Ky.

With his third-place showing in the 100 yard backstroke, Ramdeen came within three-and-a-half seconds from a NAIA Provisional standard time, while Ater collected a third-place showing in the 200 yard backstroke with his time -- also placing sixth in the 100 yard backstroke as well with a 59.50. In the latter event, Ater sits just over five seconds off of a NAIA Provisional standard time.

Both individuals also contributed to point-scoring relay units, as Ramdeen, along with Evan Bower, Tony Goodwin and Evan Siberell, helped Shawnee State's 200 medley relay unit finish fifth with a (1:42.72), while Ater and Ramdeen teamed with Goodwin and Luke Lunsford to place seventh in the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:27.92)

In his first collegiate swimming meet, Allan Gonzalez nabbed a top-five finish of his own -- as the McAllen, Texas native's 2:14.37 in the 200 fly resulted in a fifth place showing, with Gonzalez also placing seventh in the 400 yard individual medley (5:03.68) and 16th in the 100 yard backstroke as well to obtain two additional point-scoring positions.

Between his performances in individual and relay events, Bower scored points in five events -- as in addition to the 200 medley relay unit, Bower scored points in the 100 fly (ninth, 57.52), the 1650 freestyle (20:46.35), the 400 meter freestyle relay and 800 meter freestyle relay. Bower swam in the 400 alongside Thomas Kessler, Jose Enrique Rosado Lara and Kami Walusimbi, while also swimming alongside Kessler, Walusimbi, and Ian Montgomery in the 800 freestyle relay.

Goodwin, Kessler and Siberell each scored in four different events - -with Kessler notching a 1:58.60 to place eighth in the 200 meter freestyle while also adding a 10th place finish in the 1650 freestyle in addition to the above relay events and Goodwin placing eighth in the 400 individual medley (5:08.37) and ninth in the 100 yard freestyle (50.70) in addition to the previously mentioned relays. Goodwin came just over two seconds away from a NAIA provisional qualifying time as a result.

Siberell added a sixth place finish in the 400 yard individual medley (4:52.62), a seventh place showing in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:02), and a ninth-place mark in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:23.29). Siberell came within three seconds of a NAIA Provisional qualifying time in the 100 yard breaststroke.

Walusimbi and Rosado Lara posted three point-scoring efforts each -- with Rosado Lara placing eighth in the 200 yard fly (2:35.50) and also scoring in the 400 individual medley in addition to the previously mentioned 400 yard freestyle relay, while Walusimbi finished 12th in the 200 yard freestyle along with being a contributing scorer on the 400 and 800 yard freestyle relay teams.

Luke Lunsford's point-scoring effort and 16th place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke rounded out Shawnee State's performances on the men's swimming side of the coin on Saturday.

Between the two-day event, Shawnee State scored 356.5 points as a group.

The Shawnee State men's swimming program will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 19 when the Bears compete against NCAA Division III Centre (Ky.) and Union Commonwealth (Ky.) in a Tri-Meet that will be held by Union at the Union College Center for Health & Learning in Barbourville, Ky.

The meet time is set for 2 p.m.
