SSU men's swimming gets three NAIA cuts from Bower, Goodwin, Siberell on Day 3 of Bulldog Invite

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- The men's swimming program at Shawnee State was stout once again in the water on the third day of the Bulldog Invite in Barbourville, Ky. -- as the Bears got three NAIA provisional standards, one each from Evan Bower, Tony Goodwin and Evan Siberell, to nab a fantastic performance on the third day of the Bulldog Invite Friday.

Bower, who swam a 52.39 in the preliminary round of the 100 yard butterfly, also posted a B standard in the finals en route to finishing sixth overall in the 16-swimmer field. The graduate of nearby Northwest High School was one of nine individuals to swim at or under 53 seconds in a stout field -- and scored 13 points on his own in that event.

Goodwin then followed that mark up with a strong 1:46.23 to hit a NAIA National 'B' Standard time in the prelims of the 200 yard freestyle, and nabbing a sixth-place finish in his own right after also collecting a 'B' standard time in the finals. The mark was Goodwin's second NAIA National 'B' Standard time of the weekend as well as his second such mark in as many days -- as Goodwin also added in 13 points with his own performance.

Following Goodwin, Evan Siberell joined Bower in nabbing his first NAIA National 'B' Standard of the season, collecting a 58.15 to finish a strong fifth out of 16 competitors in the 100 yard breaststroke. Siberell was one of 10 different individuals to swim under one minute in either the preliminary or final round in a strong outing for the men's squad -- and collected 14 points as an individual.

Behind the above trio, various Shawnee State men's swimmers performed at a competitive level:

  • Allan Gonzalez and Jose Enrique Rosado Lara finished ninth and 11th in the 400 yard individual medley, scoring 15 points between them
  • Luke Lunsford and Ian Montgomery added in six points with their 13th and 15th place finishes in the 100 yard breaststroke with a six-point total
  • Josiah Ramdeen, Evan Ater and Alexander Ray combined for 26 points in the 100 yard backstroke by finishing eighth, ninth and 11th
  • Lastly, the 400 yard medley relay units of Bower, Goodwin, Siberell and Ramdeen, along with Ater, Gonzalez, Lunsford and Kami Walusimbi, collected 30 points with ninth and 11th place efforts to conclude the festivities on Day 3
