Goodwin (100 free), Siberell (200 breast) add two more NAIA cuts; SSU men's swimming posts six NAIA National Standard times at four-day Bulldog Invite
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- The stout swimming of Tony Goodwin and Evan Siberell continued once again on the fourth and final day of the Bulldog Invite Saturday evening -- as Goodwin posted his third NAIA National Standard swim time in his three days competing at the Bulldog Invite, while Siberell nabbed his second consecutive day with a national cut as Goodwin's 47.91 in the 100 yard freestyle and Siberell's 2:08.42 in the 200 yard breaststroke led another great effort by the duo, and the Shawnee State men's swimming program as a whole as the Bears collected 381 points over the four-day meet, which was held at Union Commonwealth University in Barbourville, Ky.
Siberell, who continues to be an ace swimmer from a breaststroke standpoint, nabbed 15 points with his 2:08.42 in the 200 yard breaststroke -- and was one of eight swimmers in the event to pop off a 'B' standard time. Siberell also improved on his preliminary time, which was also a B standard, by over 2.2 seconds, en route to a strong fourth-place finish in the 20-competitor field.
Goodwin, who has proven to be, likewise, an ace swimmer in the freestyle realm, claimed seventh place with his 47.91. Goodwin was one of nine individuals to hit a B standard in an impressive field that was stacked with 23 competitive swimmers in the race itself.
Behind the standout duo, solid efforts by the remaining men's swimming competitors at Shawnee State followed:
- Evan Ater finished sixth in the 200 yard backstroke, collecting 13 points
- Allan Gonzalez added in a sixth place showing in the 200 yard butterfly, also obtaining 13 points
- Evan Bower and Jose Enrique Rosado Lara finished ninth and 11th in the 200 yard butterfly, with the duo amassing 15 points together
- Josiah Ramdeen, Alex Ray and Kami Walusimbi finished 11th, 12th and 21st in the 100 yard freestyle, with Ramdeen and Ray combining for 11 points
- Thomas Kessler finished 11th in the 1650 yard freestyle, claiming six points on his own accord
- Luke Lunsford and Ian Montgomery finished 18th and 19th in the 200 yard breaststroke
- The 400 yard freestyle relay units of Ater, Ramdeen, Ray and Goodwin, along with Gonzalez, Lunsford, Kessler and Bower, finished seventh and eighth, respectively
