SSU MSWIM puts school record 11 individuals on All-Academic MSC list; Siberell named to MSC Champions of Character Team
The men's swimming program at Shawnee State produced a record-breaking number of individuals on the All-Academic Mid-South Conference list Thursday, as 11 individuals -- Evan Ater, Evan Bower, Jose Enrique Rosado Lara, Allan Gonzalez, Tony Goodwin, Eric Green, Thomas Kessler, Malik Nelson, Josiah Ramdeen, Evan Siberell and Kami Walusimbi each qualified themselves on the All-Academic MSC list as announced by conference officials.
Gonzalez, who is tied for the highest grade point average of any individual inside both SSU swimming programs, leads the way with an unblemished 4.0 GPA. Gonzalez, who is in his first year with the Shawnee State swimming program, is eligible for Academic All-MSC honors as the freshman has over 40 hours of academic credit tallied in all already.
Evan Bower, who holds the third-highest grade point average of any individual on both Shawnee State swimming programs, is next in line with a 3.97 GPA in mathematical sciences. Bower has earned over 110 hours of academic credit in the field.
Eric Green and Evan Siberell, who either hold or finished with undergraduate GPAs above 3.8, were just behind Gonzalez and Bower. Green, a senior who has a 3.86 GPA, has over 130 hours of academic credit -- while Siberell finished his undergraduate studies with a GPA north of 3.8 as well in three-and-a-half-years, and is currently pursuing his master's of business adminstration degree at Shawnee State.
Siberell was also named as Shawnee State's representative to the Mid-South Conference's Champions of Character Team -- as the senior has produced a masterclass effort as a four-year swimming talent who has graduated with his bachelor's degree in three-and-a-half years, has qualified with a NAIA Provisional Standard in each of the last three seasons, and has accomplished the aforementioned pieces with a humility and grace that is rare among many.
Malik Nelson, Thomas Kessler, Evan Ater and Josiah Ramdeen continued the academic success below the frontline individuals, as the quartet each nabbed GPAs above 3.5. Nelson, a first-year swimmer at Shawnee State, holds a 3.6 GPA and is eligible for inclusion by obtaining over 40 hours of academic credit, while Kessler, who is also a first-year swimmer at Shawnee State, holds a 3.54 GPA as a nursing major -- and is eligible by passing over 35 hours of academic credit.
Ater and Ramdeen, who are multi-year swimmers that have been fixtures on this list in past seasons much like Bower, Green and Siberell have been, hold GPAs of 3.55 and 3.51 respectively in integrated social studies and computer engineering technology.
Following them, Tony Goodwin, Jose Enrique Rosado Lara and Kami Walusimbi all achieved grade point averages above the 3.25 cutoff.
Goodwin, a first-year Shawnee State swimmer, carries a 3.49 GPA as an information technology major and has passed over 85 cumulative hours of academic credit.
Rosado Lara and Walusimbi, two veteran swimmers on the Shawnee State roster, carry marks of 3.44 and 3.26 respectively. Rosado Lara has collected over 110 hours of credit while Walusimbi has over 55 hours on his line. Both individuals are plastics engineering technology majors.
To be eligible for Academic All-Mid South Conference honorees, student-athletes on a roster must hold a 3.25 GPA or better and pass at least 30 or more hours of academic credit.
