Nelson, Siberell hit NAIA Provisional Cuts in 100 fly, 100 breaststroke on Day 2 of Mid-South Conference Championships

DANVILLE, Ky. -- For the second time in as many days, Malik Nelson posted a NAIA Provisional Cut time with a blistering freestyle time -- while Evan Siberell continued to impress as a standout breaststroke swimmer who has long established himself as one of the nation's best swimmers in that event.

Nelson swam a 51.92 in the 100 yard fly while Siberell swam a 57.94 in the 100 yard breaststroke as the duo each claimed fifth-place times and national qualifying marks in the two events, respectively, on Day 2 of the Mid-South Conference Championships, which were held at Boles Natatorium in Danville, Ky. Friday.

Nelson, who had already set a NAIA Provisional Cut time in the 50 yard freestyle two separate times coming into Day 2 of the Mid-South Conference Championships -- including a provisional time in the 50 free on Day 1 of the MSC Championships -- posted a 52.15 in prelims in the 100 fly to hit the provisional standard, then swam over two-tenths of a second faster en route to a 51.92 in Friday evening's finals of the same event.

As for Siberell, the multi-time NAIA National Qualifier and competitor in the 100 yard breaststroke continued his terrific form in the event -- swimming a 58.83 to sit seventh in preliminaries as one of 10 MSC swimmers who set a NAIA Provisional Cut time. The graduate student then kicked it up a notch in the finals -- going nearly a full second faster Friday evening with a 57.94.

Nelson and Siberell also helped Shawnee State claim a fourth-place finish in the 200 yard medley relay -- as the pair combined with Evan Ater and Evan Bower to finish fourth. The 800 yard freestyle relay group of Bower, Thomas Kessler, Luke Lunsford and Tony Goodwin also finished fourth.
