Bears take down Capital

Capital University traveled from Columbus Ohio to take on the Bears Tuesday, September 26th. SSU came out hot winning first doubles with the pair of Rinehart and Purbo defeating Secrist and Surles of Capital 6-1. Lambert and Stam dominated at the second doubles position winning 6-0. Transfer duo and Clayton Ohio natives Stanley and Pine won 6-4 at the third doubles spot.

The Bears battled to win the first and second singles positions in 3rd set tiebreakers, Rinehart downing Secrist 7-5,5-7 11-9 and Stam defeating Surles 4-6,6-2, 12-10. Senior Keenen Lambert took down Jesse Stevens in straight sets 6-4,6-1. Sophomore Arva Purbo defeated Welch 6-4,6-3. Lefty Adam Stanley took down Jackson Havel 6-4,6-4.  Freshman Matthew Justice and Portsmouth native fell to Wines in a tight contest 7-5,3-6,6-10. The Bears take on Division 2 West Virginia State University on Thursday 10/05 at home at 2 p.m.
