PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- The men's tennis program at Shawnee State got a doubles victory from Zinedine Arva Purbo and Daniel Cristobal at No. 2 doubles and received wins from Arva Purbo and Adam Stanley at No. 2 and No. 4 singles against Indiana-Southeast Saturday at the William E. Daehler Tennis Center in Portsmouth to lead the Shawnee State men's tennis efforts over the course of the week.
Indiana-Southeast
Arva Purbo, who faced off against Indiana-Southeast's DJ Hall, swept his match in fine fashion by claiming a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at the No. 2 singles spot while Stanley, who faced IU-Southeast's Paxton Evitts at No. 4 singles, did much the same en route to a 6-3, 6-2 result.
In doubles competition, Arva Purbo made it a clean sweep of his day by teaming up with Cristobal to defeat Hall and Evitts, 6-0, at No. 2 doubles.
Additional play saw competitive efforts on down the line for the Shawnee State men's tennis program, as Aidan Gray and Matt Justice dropped a scant 6-4 decision to Indiana-Southeast's Doran Martin and Brennan Cooper at No. 3 doubles, while Daniel Cristobal took the first set at No. 1 singles against IU-Southeast's Keith Asplund, 6-2, before dropping competitive 4-6, 3-6 margins to Asplund. Aiden Pine closed out the match with a strong effort at No. 6 singles against Cooper, battling back from a 4-6 setback in the first set to claim a 7-5 triumph in the second, sending Pine and Cooper to a third set. Pine dropped the third set but in a highly competitive overall decision for Shawnee State overall.
