Austin wins discus, Moore wins shot put at Otterbein Invitational; T. Lanoy, French, Little add in top-three finishes for SSU men's outdoor track and field
Shawnee State freshmen throwers Alan Austin and Justin Moore are on the entry list for Saturday's discus and shot put events at the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus.
If Friday's outing was any indication, both Austin and Moore might be in for big performances Saturday, as well.
Austin, who already has an NAIA National 'A' Standard throw in the discus, won the event with a 152-foot, three-inch performance while Moore, who has a NAIA National 'A' Standard throw in the shot put, won that event with a 49-foot, three-inch mark as the duo proved to be terrific and dependable once again.
Austin, who was terrific in the discus, was the only individual to throw over 140 feet in the event -- as Austin cleared the next-best individual by over 14 feet with his performance. Moore, who added in a fourth-place finish in the same event in addition to his shot put-winning throw, was one of just seven throwers to clear 130 feet, nabbing a 133-foot, eight-inch throw.
In the shot put, Moore's 49-foot, three-inch throw bettered the next-best throw by more than a foot. Austin finished 17th in that event (39 feet, 10-and-three-quarters inch throw).
From a running standpoint, SSU wasted no time posting major points in the track events, as well -- as Trevor Lanoy (4:28.27) placed second of 47 runners while Dylan French (4:28.74) notched a fourth place showing in the one mile. Shawn Little posted a 15:05.07 to nab a top-three showing in the 5,000 meter run out of the 78 individuals that took part in the race. Trevor Lanoy finished just over a second off of the top time, while French finished just over a second-and-a-half back of first place. Little's 15:05.07 was less than 18 seconds off of a NAIA National 'B' Standard time.
Isaiah Lanoy, who competed in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, added in another stout time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:49.82) to place sixth out of 16 individuals in the event. Isaiah Lanoy finished less than 20 seconds off of the NAIA National 'B' Standard in the event.
From a relay standpoint, Shawnee State also nabbed five points from its 4-by-100 meter relay unit of Braxton Noble, Donn'Yae Ferguson, Eugene Johnson and Maddox Fox, who posted a 45.69 to claim a fourth-place finish.
