Bears Duel with Saints but Fall Short

Wednesday evening, the Bears took part in the Mid-South Conference Softball tournament which is held in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Shawnee State was matched up against Thomas More in the first round of the tournament and after the pitching duel, SSU fell to TMU 1-0, ending the Bears season.

Shawnee State would be the road team in this contest meaning they would bat first. The Bears would go one, two three in the top of the first. The same result came from Shawnee State Junior Cassie Schaefer who saw three Saints in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second, Ashley Fite singled to right field giving the Bears their first and only base hit for the next four innings. Schafer dominated the TMU lineup until the bottom of the fifth when managed to get bases loaded and placed the perfect ball on the left side to put the Bears down 1-0. The Bears would threaten in the top of the seventh after a Brittani Wolfenbarker single but to no eval, as SSU fell to Thomas More 1-0 in the first round.

  • Wolfenbarker and Fite one hit apiece
  • Schaefer 5.0 innings of work allowing 1 earned run on 2 strikeouts
