Christopher notches second career River States Conference Player of the Week Award

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Behind a week where Jenna Christopher hit over .640 from the No. 2 position in the batting order, the junior from nearby Huntington, W. Va. was named as the River States Conference's Softball Player of the Week for the second time in her career in a release that was put out by River States Conference officials Monday afternoon.

Christopher was terrific throughout the week in the No. 2 position in the batting order, going 9-for-14 over the course of the week in Shawnee State's 3-1 run over the week in a sweep of West Virginia Tech (12-4 in six, 9-0 in five) and a split of Indiana-Southeast. Christopher went a perfect 8-for-8 in Shawnee State's doubleheader against Indiana-Southeast as a part of her hitting exploits.

Christopher was also stout on the basepaths and in the field -- as the junior stole four bases and scored five runs over the course of the week and fielded her position at center field flawlessly, as Christopher did not commit an error in eight fielding chances.

The softball program at Shawnee State will host three doubleheaders over the next week and play in four doubleheaders overall -- with River States Conference foes Midway (Ky.), Oakland City (Ind.) and Brescia (Ky.) all coming to Doc Singleton Park in West Portsmouth Tuesday, Friday and Saturday respectively. The Midway and Oakland City doubleheaders will start at 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday while the Brescia doubleheader will commence at 1 p.m. Saturday.
