Ellis, Gloster, Maynard, Steele named All-RSC for (RV) SSU WBB
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- The women's basketball program at Shawnee State put four players on the All-River States Conference lists for the women's basketball program -- as Cianna Gloster parlayed her double-double averages to First-Team All-RSC honors while Miyoshi Ellis, who has averaged 10.6 points and 2.9 assists over her 18 games in the starting lineup, joined Gloster on the First-Team All-RSC list.
Behind them, the tough and gritty duo of Emily Maynard and Jariah Steele joined the aforementioned pair on the All-RSC list -- as both sophomores made the Third-Team All-RSC squad, giving Shawnee State four players to match Rio Grande's four players for the most River States Conference honorees by any team in a conference list that was released by conference officials Wednesday morning.
Gloster, a senior forward who has done everything in her power to will Shawnee State to its best regular season showing since the 2019-20 campaign, has enjoyed a fantastic season, averaging 15.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.9 steals on 54.8 percent shooting.
The single-season rebounding record holder at Shawnee State with 373 rebounds -- which was set during the 2023-24 season -- Gloster has already notched 316 rebounds during the 2024-25 season with the River States Conference and NAIA National Tournaments still to be played. Gloster has accumulated 958 career collegiate points, 593 career collegiate rebounds and 209 career collegiate steals.
An explosive lead guard who is just as dynamic as a facilitator, Miyoshi Ellis is, simply put, a difference-maker as a lead guard.
Ellis, a junior in her first season at Shawnee State after making two National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA) Tournament appearances at Union (N.J.) College, has continued building a penchant of winning with the Bears, notching 201 points, 81 assists, 60 rebounds and 37 steals in 28 games for Shawnee State.
The dynamic guard from Harlem in New York City has led her basketball teams to a 72-16 overall record, and has been outstanding ever since being inserted into the starting lineup for the second half of the 2024-25 season, averaging the above-mentioned 10.6 points and 2.9 assists in her 18 starts with SSU.
Two unselfish, team-first players who bring winning intangibles to Shawnee State's lineup with their unselfish, team-first play, sophomores Emily Maynard and Jariah Steele each obtained Third-Team All-RSC honors with their performances.
Maynard, a skilled spot up shooter from distance, is averaging 7.5 points -- and enjoyed a stretch where the talented gunner from Greenup County hit 27 three-pointers in a six-game stretch.
Steele, who is averaging 7.1 points per outing, is a highly-efficient shooter and slasher who holds a 50.3 percent mark from the field -- and is averaging 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals to boot. The 5-9 sophomore from Cincinnati enjoyed a breakout 21-point, nine-rebound performance against Rio Grande Feb. 11 on the road in a 77-73 Shawnee State win -- a key victory toward sealing the River States Conference Regular Season Championship.
