
SSU women's bowling finishes eighth in Jackson Open
The women's bowling program at Shawnee State University used a consistent showing throughout the course of the Jackson Open to finish eighth at the Jackson, Mich.-based event by dropping 6,456 pins as a team Saturday.
In notching its 6,456-pin total, the Bears bettered eight teams -- including four NAIA opponents as well as NCAA Division II Ferris State (Mich.). SSU also bettered Michigan State University by 560 pins.
Veteran bowler Chloe Long, who bowled a four-game 787, led the charge for Shawnee State. Long posted a 205 in Game 1 and a 214 in Game 2 en route to averaging 202 pins over the course of action. Long placed 20th overall with an average of 196.4 pins dropped during the four-game set.
Skylar Lane, who posted a four-game 706, posted a high of 188 in Game 3 to post an average of 176.5 pins per affair in individual games, while Hannah Rearick's high mark of 216 in Game 4 helped lift the bowler to a four-game 705.
Olyvia Bittner, who notched a 204 in Game 3 en route to a four-game 680, notched an average of 170, while Morgan Higgins' four-game 676 rounded out the order for the Bears, with Higgins averaging 169 pins per game.
In Baker games, Shawnee State knocked down over 200 pins in three out of the 16 Baker contests -- including a mark of 213 in the first Baker, a 205 in the sixth Baker and a 208 in the 12th Baker, with the latter mark pacing all teams in that particular Baker game. The 213 pins in the first Baker game was second among all schools who competed Saturday.
The Bears, as a unit, also dropped 196 pins in the third Baker and 191 pins in the 16th Baker game.
Shawnee State completed the 2023 portion of its schedule Saturday and will be back in action Jan. 14, 2023 when the Bears compete in the Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic in Pittsburgh, Pa.
