SSU women grab fourth place finish at Greater Pittsburgh
Led by a sixth-place showing from Shawnee State graduate student bowler Chloe Long, the women's bowling program at Shawnee State was able to knock down 6,212 pins and claim a fourth-place finish in the 10-team field at the Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic, which was held in Greensburg, Pa. Saturday.
Long stands strong on the top rung
Long, who posted a four-game 803 en route to dropping an average of 200.75 pins per game, posted a 235 in Game 2 -- which tied for the third-best game among all competitors. The Illinois native also dropped 200 pins in Game 1 and 210 pins in Game 4 to maintain her high standing in the 68-bowler field, and, like Sam Clay on the men's side, was the top finisher among any bowler from a institution based in Ohio. Long was also the only bowler on an Ohio-based team to finish inside the top-12.
Rest of the rundown
Experienced bowling hands Olyvia Bittner and Hannah Rearick also posted finishes for Shawnee State that were inside the top-third of the field -- as the duo finished 18th and 19th, respectively. Bittner posted a 206 in Game 3 and a 199 in Game 1 en route to a four-game 718 (179.5 pin average per game) while Rearick dropped 234 pins in Game 2 to post a four-game 712 (178-pin average).
Morgan Higgins, who claimed a 25th-place finish, improved as the day went on -- ultimately notching her best effort in Game 4 with a 192 mark that gave her a four-game 658 and a solid 164.5 pin average, while Emma Bilenstein's 192 in Game 1 was the freshman's best effort in a four-game 616 that led to a 154-pin average.
In Baker games, the Shawnee State women's bowling program posted scores of 678, 750, 656 and 621 in its four Baker games -- solidifying a fourth-place finish in the final rundown with only Mount St. Mary's (Md.), Alvernia (Pa.) and St. Vincent (Pa.) emerging ahead of the SSU women.
As the top Ohio program in the finishing order, the Bears bettered Walsh, Akron and Tiffin by 474, 587 and 957 pins, respectively.
