
SSU women's bowling program finishes eighth in OBC Match No. 4, SSU women's JV finishes runner-up
The women's bowling program at Shawnee State put together another solid performance in its play at the Ohio Bowling Conference Match No. 4, as Bryan and Jani Sturgell's unit finished eighth overall in the 16-team field Saturday evening at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace in Columbus, Ohio.
From a varsity standpoint, Hannah Rearick headlined the SSU effort with another fantastic effort -- as Rearick finished ninth in the 95-bowler women's field with a four-game 758. Rearick notched a terrific output in Game 1 -- as her 243 to open matters was the fourth-best individual performance by any women's bowler with only Northwestern Ohio's McKenzie Wagner and Kent State-Tuscawaras' Chloe Blick bettering Rearick as Wagner posted marks of 266 and 256 in Games 1 and 2 with Blick notching a 252 in Game 4.
Graduate student Chloe Long continued her fantastic career with yet another consistent showing -- as Long finished 25th with a four-game 716. The Illinois product bowled a 216 in Game 4 to vault up the final finishing order.
Morgan Higgins added in a consistent effort for Shawnee State with her 38th place showing, notching a four-game 666 with all four of her games featuring scores between the 159 to 172 range, while Olyvia Bittner added in a top-50 mark with a 49th-place effort -- notching marks between 150 to 167 across her four contests en route to a four-game 634.
Maddie Pierce's 176 in Game 1 and MacKenzie Drone's 164 in Game 3 rounded out the efforts for the SSU women on the varsity side.
Overall, the Shawnee State women dropped 6,145 pins between individual play and Bakers, with the Bears bettering Tiffin, Mount Vernon Nazarene, Akron, Kent State, Baldwin Wallace, Ursuline, Wittenberg, and Thomas More. Of the 16 Bakers that Shawnee State competed in on the evening, the Bears posted their best Baker in Game 5, notching a 211 as a group.
Junior varsity-wise, Shawnee State claimed a second-place finish out of four units, with Kylie Fowler finishing in a tie for fourth place with her four-game 690. Fowler bowled between scores of 168 to 181 in each of her four games en route to OBC Match No. 4 JV All-Tournament honors.
Brooklyn Foose, who posted a four-game 638, posted a 178 in Game 1 and a 170 in Game 4 to finish eighth in the 26-bowler field on the junior varsity side, assisting Fowler in ultimately pushing the junior varsity's total pin count to 4,330 pins -- which included 2,884 pins in singles competition and 1,446 pins dropped in Baker games.

Shawnee State returns to the lanes Saturday, Jan. 27 and Sunday, Jan. 28 when the Bears compete in the two-day Hammer Saints Classic, which will be hosted by Thomas More University in Erlanger, Ky.
