SSU women fourth following Day 1 of Hammer Classic; Lane finishes as Hammer Saints Classic Runner-Up, Foose, Drone named to JV All-Tourney Team
The women's bowling program at Shawnee State got several great efforts Saturday from a host of bowlers in individual play at the opening day of the Hammer Saints Classic -- especially from Skylar Lane in particular, who made her return to the lanes a triumphant one with a second-place finish to claim Hammer Saints Classic All-Tournament Team honors at the Super Bowl Bellewood Bowling Alley Saturday evening.
The Shawnee State women, who sit fourth in the seven team varsity field, were led by Lane, who immediately set the tone for what ended up being an amazing day at the lanes by coming out firing with a Game 1 256. Her four-game 761 was among just four players who notched at or above 750 pins dropped in individual play, and Lane averaged 190.25 pins per game behind her outstanding Game 1 effort.
Behind Lane, the consistency of Chloe Long resulted in Long claiming a 10th place finish with a four-game 713 in individual play. Long posted scores of 172, 172, 192 and 177 in all four games, respectively, to average 178.25 pins per contest.
Olyvia Bittner added in her own top-12 standing as Bittner's four-game 695 -- buoyed by a Game 4 207 -- put three SSU bowlers inside the top-15 overall.
Brooklyn Foose and MacKenzie Drone added in excellent efforts on the junior varsity side of the coin behind the main varsity trio -- as Foose finished second among all junior varsity bowlers and 17th in the overall field with her four-game 668 while Drone added in a four-game 665 to finish third among all JV bowlers and 18th in the overall field. Foose's 199 in Game 2 and Drone's 186 in Game 4 were among the impressive individual game totals that the pair put up on Saturday.
Hannah Rearick, who competed for the varsity unit, finished 22nd with her four-game 648 to round out the main showings for the Bears in the event.
