SSU women's bowling squad finishes fourth at Hammer Saints Classic; women finish as JV runner-up

Following an outing where the Shawnee State women's bowling program dropped 4,030 pins as a unit, the SSU varsity women knocked down 2,712 pins across its Baker contests to hold fourth place in the final finishing order on the second and final day of the Hammer Saints Classic, which was held at Super Bowl Bellewood Bowling Alley in Newport, Ky. Saturday and Sunday.

SSU, who, along with Campbellsville, Rio Grande, and eventual winner Emmanuel (Ga.), separated themselves from the remainder of the women's field following Saturday's action, maintained and built on their sizeable advantage over the rest of the field.

The Bears, who needed to finish inside the top-three overall to qualify for Hammer Saints Classic play, trailed Campbellsville by just 21 pins (4,051 to 4,030) heading into Sunday's Baker games, while Emmanuel (Ga.)'s 4,124 pins and Rio Grande's 4,205 pins led the way for Shawnee State heading into the final day of action.

While Shawnee State's varsity group remained on Campbellsville's heels throughout Sunday's action, the Bears were not able to overtake the Tigers as Campbellsville held on for third, posting 2,716 pins to SSU's 2,712 Sunday to edge SSU by just 25 pins over the two-day span to qualify for tournament action. Rio Grande ultimately beat Campbellsville in the No. 2 vs. No. 3 matchup while Emmanuel bested Rio Grande in the Hammer Saints Classic Championship Match to win the title.

Junior varsity-wise, the Bears, who were one of just two entries in the JV field along with Emmanuel (Ga.), posted impressive game scores of 202 and 206 themselves in two separate Bakers. Brooklyn Foose and MacKenzie Drone, in particular, had already enjoyed strong weekends themselves -- placing in the top-20 overall among all competitors and earning Hammer Saints Classic JV All-Tournament Team honors.

On the varsity side, Skylar Lane finished as the Hammer Saints Classic Runner-Up en route to her own All-Tournament Team honor, and Chloe Long and Olyvia Bittner each finished inside the top-15 overall to lead the charge following Saturday's play.
