SSU women's golf program sits eighth in River States Conference Women's Golf Preseason Coaches Poll

The women's golf program at Shawnee State was selected to finish eighth in the River States Conference's Preseason Coaches Poll in a release that was put out by RSC officials Tuesday afternoon.

As tight as the men's golf poll proved to be, the women's golf poll proved to be even more tightly-contested. In all, first through ninth place in the River States Conference Preseason Coaches Poll was separated by just 46 points -- with the top six teams in the poll being separated by only 25 points and just seven points separating Brescia (Ky.), SSU and Alice Lloyd.

Four out of the nine teams in the poll claimed a first place vote as well, with Indiana-East's 58 points and four first-place votes just edging Midway's 57 points and three first-place markers at the top of the board. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods claimed 47 points and a first-place vote while Rio Grande, who was sixth in the poll, nabbed 33 markers and the last first-place vote in the group.

Shawnee State, who was eighth, posted 16 points -- four markers ahead of Alice Lloyd and three points back of Brescia.

The Bears return three letterwinning golfers from last season, including Cali Baird, Maggie Siley and Aly Wellman, the latter of whom won the Ohio Christian University Spring Invitational and, as a result of earning Medalist honors for the event, won the River States Conference's Golfer of the Week honors with her performance.

Five additional newcomers join the Shawnee State women's golf roster, including Brianna Stid, Brynna Spencer, Emily Weber, Sidnea Belville and Brooklyn Webb.
