Belville posts best single round at OCU Fall Invite (76), ties Holley Hart for lowest individual round in SSU women's golf history

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- Through the first two golf tournaments of her collegiate career, Shawnee State true freshman Sidnea Belville has played like a veteran who is poised to make a run at accomplishing heights not before seen in the women's golf program in the future.

However, Belville's performance Tuesday afternoon at the Ohio Christian Fall Invitational, even by her standards, was truly fantastic.

In a history-making round, the Ironton product posted a second-day 76 to not only collect the best overall 18-hole round of all 28 players at the Ohio Christian Fall Invitational, but matched a program record by shooting an outstanding four-over 76 to match the program standard set by that of her current coach, Holley Hart, in just her fourth-ever 18-hole collegiate round at the Pickaway Golf Course and Country Club to finish off the two-round invitational Tuesday afternoon.

Belville ballin' out, all the way to the clubhouse

Belville, who shot an 89 in the opening round to sit in a tie for 11th place on the board after the first day of competition, was rock-solid to begin with.

The freshman, however, shot up the charts on Tuesday -- and put a fairly serious scare among the lead group.

Just 10 shots back of the lead heading into the final day of competition, Belville ripped off an incredible round by posting a birdie on the 11th hole while notching pars on 12 additional greens Tuesday. On the back nine alone, Belville, in clutch fashion, finished with an outstanding even-par 36 -- with her 11th hole birdie sandwiched around six additional pars heading into the clubhouse.

The freshman posted the lowest individual round of the entire tournament as a result -- and jumped from her tie at 11th place to a tie for sixth, just one stroke back of the Ohio Christian Fall Invitational's All-Tournament Team.

In shooting her 76, Belville also matched Hart's program record of 76. Like Hart -- who set her stroke of 76 at the UPike Fall Invitational on Sept. 29, 2019 -- Belville posted her lowest collegiate round on the second day of action, and, like Hart, also tied for sixth in the finishing order in doing so.

Wellman's consistency leads remaining Bears

Following the freshman's splendid outing, Shawnee State sophomore Aly Wellman also improved on her second day of play. The Wayne, W. Va. native was tied for 14th following Monday's opening round after shooting a 92, but moved into sole possession of 12th at the finish by posting a second-round 85.

Wellman shot an impressive three-over 39 on the front nine, posting a birdie on the sixth hole while notching pars on the first, second, fifth, seventh and eighth holes -- as the true sophomore has teamed with Belville to form a potent one-two punch at the top of the Shawnee State golfing order.

Behind the duo, Cali Baird's 18th, Brynna Spencer's tie for 20th place and Brianna Stid's 24th place mark rounded out the showings for the Shawnee State women's golf program.
