SSU women's golf gets top-15 showings from Belville, Wellman following opening day of UPike Fall Invitational
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. -- Behind top-15 finishes from Aly Wellman and Sidnea Belville, the women's golf program at Shawnee State again got strong showings from the pair as the duo nabbed two top-15 showings for Shawnee State following the opening day of a grueling 54-hole tournament at StoneCrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg, Ky. as part of the UPike Invitational.
Wellman, who posted a 90 in the opening round of competition, is well on her way to an improvement in the second round as the sophomore from Wayne, W. Va. holds a 50 through 11 holes of action. Belville, who continues building on a strong freshman campaign, also shot a 90 in the opening round of play at the UPike Invitational and holds a 51 through 11 holes in the second round of play.
Behind the duo, Brynna Spencer, who matched Wellman and Belville stride-for-stride in the opening round by also shooting a 90, sits in a tie for 22nd. Emily Weber's 29th and Cali Baird's 31st round out the Shawnee State contingent.
The Bears will be back in action Tuesday to finish play at the UPike Invitational -- where each of the five Shawnee State golfers competing will finish the final 25 holes remaining in the tournament.
