SSU women's soccer posts high academic achievement with 10 named RSC Scholar-Athletes

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- The women's soccer program at Shawnee State continued their stellar run of high academic achievement Thursday afternoon, as a total of 10 players were named as River States Conference Scholar-Athletes as announced by conference officials Thursday afternoon.

By posting 10 individuals on the River States Conference Scholar-Athlete list, Shawnee State posted double-digit honorees on the academic front for the second consecutive season. It's also the fourth time in the last five seasons, as well as the fifth time in the last seven seasons dating back to 2018, that the women's soccer program at Shawnee State has had at least 10 academic all-conference honorees.

As was the case on the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District list, Alex Hurn, who notched a 4.0 GPA as a master's of business adminstration student, led the way. Annie Coriell, who was next on the list, posted a 3.94 GPA as a nursing major while Claire Favre holds a 3.91 GPA in exercise science -- as an impressive 30 percent of the sizeable list of honorees had above a 3.9.

Behind them, two additional talents -- both from nearby Valley High School in Lucasville -- each hold GPAs above 3.8, as Elizabeth Brown holds a 3.85 as a chemistry major while Lucie Ashkettle sits next up with a 3.81 mark in accounting.

Julye Derenemensil, who has a 3.78 GPA in sport management, Ariane Davis, who has a 3.73 in health science, and Madison Culp, who holds a 3.72 GPA while also majoring in health science, while Robyn Drinkwater holds a 3.71 GPA in exercise science as all four players finished with GPAs above 3.7.

Carlota Ipina Taylor -- the final honoree on the list -- has a 3.39 GPA to her credit, as Ipina Taylor is pulling that mark as a psychology major.

In addition to the 10 RSC Scholar-Athlete honorees, four additional players all hold grade-point-averages that represent the program in a strong light. Bianca Robinson, who is currently pursuing a master's of business adminstration, has a 4.0 GPA with her current standing of grades coming after the RSC Scholar-Athlete submission deadline.

Whitney Dean, who also holds a 4.0 GPA as a sport management major, Isabelle Riddle, who also holds a 4.0 as a health science major, and Brooklyn Hawes, who holds a 3.83 GPA, are freshmen who have each passed over a semester's worth of hours from an academic credit standpoint, and will be eligible for RSC Scholar-Athlete submission next fall provided that they each hold good academic standing as both are presently doing.
