Bosler, McCafferty lead SSU women's swimming following Day 1 of Dr. Dillery Fall Frenzy

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The women's swimming program came close to nabbing provisional standards in its season-opening swim meet Friday evening -- as Abigail Bosler and Katie McCafferty each flirted with NAIA Provisional territory as Shawnee State's unit again showcased early promise following the opening day of the Dr. Dillery Fall Frenzy Friday evening at the Doris and Bob Holloway Health and Wellness Center in Columbia, Ky.

McCafferty, who finished fourth in the women's 200 yard individual medley, clicked off a 2:21.64 in the event as one of just five swimmers in the 200 yard IM to finish under 2:22 in the event.

McCafferty already sits less than five seconds back from a NAIA Provisional time after the first day of the Dr. Dillery Fall Frenzy -- and scored 15 of Shawnee State's 72 points with her time in that event.

Less than two seconds back of McCafferty, Bosler placed eighth to give Shawnee State two top-10 finishers in the event -- with the Westerville, Ohio product shooting out to a 2:23.26.

The junior scored 11 points on her own in just that event alone, and allowed SSU to join meet host Lindsey Wilson and Indiana Wesleyan as the only pair of schools who had multiple top-10 finishes in the 200 yard individual medley.

Bosler again pressed the envelope in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing less than a half-second off of the NAIA provisional time standard (25.58) by posting a 26.03 to finish eighth -- and add an additional 11 points to Shawnee State's team total.

De-Nicha Lewis and Mercedes Mwebeiha combined for six points in the event, posting times of 26.65 and 26.90 to collect 13th and 15th place marks.

SSU garnered an additional 26 points in the 200 yard freestyle relay -- as Bosler, Lewis, Mwebeiha and Emilie Wasnich combined to posted a 1:45.79 to finish sixth. Julia Luallen and Emma Conley notched the final three SSU tallies by finishing 15th and 16th in the women's 500 yard freestyle, respectively.

Shawnee State will be back in action for the second and final day of the Dr. Dillery Fall Frenzy. Action commences Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
