Bosler wins 100 yard breaststroke and hits 'B' Standard again, McCafferty adds in 'B' cut in 400 IM to lead SSU women's swimming on Day 3 of Bulldog Invite
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- When it comes to swimming, an individual never has to worry about what Abigail Bosler and Katie McCafferty are going to bring to the table in terms of consistency.
The duo were, as per usual, standouts once again during Day 3 of the Bulldog Invitational in Barbourville, Ky. Friday evening -- as Bosler again notched a NAIA Provisional Standard time and won the the 100 yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:06.82, while McCafferty set her own strong pace in the 400 yard individual medley by clicking off a time of 4:49.97 in that event to lead another strong effort for the Shawnee State women's swimming program at the Union College Center for Health & Learning.
McCafferty, who opened the day with her strong time of under 4:50 in the long-distance event, scored 12 points alone with her output. The Centerville High School graduate was one of seven individuals in the field to finish under the 4:50 line en route to another strong performance.
Bosler, who won the 100 yard breaststroke with a blistering time, controlled the event from start to finish by posting an event-leading preliminary time of 1:07.04 -- then bettering that mark by over two-tenths of a second en route to her event-winning 1:06.82 time in the final. Bosler won by over a half-second in the event and was over two seconds faster than all but two individuals in the 16-swimmer field in what was a rather convincing win. Her victory resulted in a 20-point output in her individual breaststroke performance alone.
Behind them were more notable efforts, including:
- A strong outing by Mercedes Mwebeiha, who finished fifth out of 15 competitors in the 100 yard backstroke and earned 15 points to boot
- A 13th place, four-point showing by Emilie Wasnich in the 200 yard freestyle
- A 14th place finish by Emma Conley in the 400 yard individual medley, resulting in one point
- A 28-point performance via a fourth-place finish from the 400 yard medley relay grouping of Bosler, McCafferty, De-Nicha Lewis and Jordan Patterson, who finished fourth
