Bosler finishes 22nd nationally in 100 breaststroke; McCafferty competes in 100 back, 400 IM

ELKHART, Ind. -- The women's swimming program at Shawnee State got a NAIA National Top-25 finish from Abigail Bosler in the 100 breaststroke and saw Katie McCafferty compete in the 100 backstroke and 400 individual medley as part of competition on the next-to-last day of the NAIA Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships, which were held Friday at the Elkhart Aquatics Center in Elkhart, Ind.

Bosler, who swam a 1:07.46 in the 100 yard breaststroke, beat two fellow Mid-South Conference swimmers -- one each from Campbellsville and Midway (Ky.) -- and bested swimmers from Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), Milligan (Tenn.), Arizona Christian, and Tennessee Southern en route to a 22nd place finish in the event.

Competing in the 400 yard IM and the 100 yard backstroke, McCafferty bettered one swimmer each from Arizona Christian, Loyola (La.) and Bethel (Ind.) in the 400 yard IM while also competing in the 100 yard backstroke all within a one-hour, 40-minute span from the start of the 400 yard IM event to the end of the 100 yard backstroke event. McCafferty sealed up two NAIA National top-35 showings as a result of competing in Friday's action.

Bosler and McCafferty will compete in one more event each to conclude matters at the NAIA Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships Saturday morning -- as Bosler will represent Shawnee State in the 200 yard breaststroke while McCafferty will compete in the 1650 yard freestyle. Swimming action begins at 9 a.m.
