Cisco's top-five finish in 5,000 meter run leads SSU women

A stout top-five time for Shawnee State talent Olivia Cisco led the Shawnee State women Friday evening as the Bears officially opened up their outdoor track and field season on what was the second day of the Charlotte 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C.

Cisco, who posted an 18:25.49 to finish fourth in a 37-runner field, bettered nine NCAA Division I athletes in the event. She was one of just five runners to post a time under 18:30 overall.

Fellow teammates Juniper Allen and Elizabeth Middleton, competing in the same event, ran times of 20:18.75 and 20:38.24 to finish 29th and 31st, respectively.

In her first-ever event as a Shawnee State women's track and field athlete, Shawnee State multi-sport talent Brianna Brudy clicked off a 12.81 to finish 31st in the 100 meter dash, while Ivy Gentry (1:06.56, 64th), Makenna Lovely (1:07.04, 65th) and Makaela Lovely (1:11.39, 71st), competed in the 400 meter dash.

Jozi Brown's 76th place finish (5:04.32) led the Bears in the 1,500 meter run while Jessica Elick (87th, 5:20.38), Amanda Salmons (98th, 5:29.87) and Mckenna Pannell (101st, 5:35.08)I rounded out Shawnee State's competitors in that event.

Lastly, Gentry's 14-foot, four-inch long jump resulted in a 40th place showing.

The Bears will be back in action for Day 3 of competition Saturday.
