Bailey, Cisco, Elick among leaders for SSU women's track and field at Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- A school record setting throw in the hammer by Jaina Bailey, another school record setting performance by Ali Taylor in the 100 meter hurdles, and two stout personal best times by Olivia Cisco and Jessica Elick in the 1,500 meter run led the Shawnee State women's track and field program at the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Invite, which was held Saturday in Cedarville. 

Bailey, who posted a 149-foot, three-inch hammer throw, finished 12th out of 51 competitors in the event and posted a mark that was six feet, two inches better than her previous personal best.

Following Bailey, Cisco and Elick each led the distance contingent once again, as the duo finished 11th and 17th in the 1,500 meter run respectively -- with Cisco posting a 4:49.50 to nab a personal best that was over 16 seconds faster than her previous time and Elick nabbing a 4:54.90 to post a near five-second PB.

In addition to the above duo's efforts in the 1,500 meter run, Kirsten Evans again made excellent strides. Evans, who finished 25th in running a 5:05.75 -- just four-tenths off of her personal best in the event -- set a personal best in the 800 meter run, collecting a 2:29.90 in the 800 to run over two-tenths faster than her previous recorded PB in the event.

Amanda Salmons' 48th place finish in the 1,500 meters, along with two personal best times from Natalie Brammer in the 1,500 and 800 meter runs, led the distance group. Brammer posted a 2:52.47 to click off a time that was a 2.6-second personal best and added in a 1,500 meter time that was over 9.6 seconds faster than her previous personal best in that event.

Sprinting-wise, Taylor posted an 18.42 to set a school record in the 100 hurdles, while Sudderth's 27-foot, one-and-a-half inch throw in the shot put proved to be a new personal best.

Hammer: Alexis Sudderth, 48th

Javelin throw: Faith Kuhn, 36th; Marli Marcum, 37th

High jump: Makaela Lovely, 17th; Ali Taylor, 27th

Shot put: Jaina Bailey, 38th; Olivia Newman, 48th; Alexis Sudderth, 51st; Marli Marcum, 57th

800 meter run: Kirsten Evans, 26th; Jessica Elick, 30th; Amanda Salmons, 32nd, Natalie Brammer, 61st

5,000 meter run: Beth Middleton, 14th; Sydney Reed, 23rd

The women's track and field program, along with the men, will be back in action Friday, April 4 when Shawnee State competes in the Cherry Blossom Invitational -- which will be held at Ohio University in Athens.
